Hymn
for Armenia
for Wind Band (Grade 4)
*selected for performance in CSU Bakersfield
Concert Band Call for Scores*
"Hymn for Armenia" was originally for 8 part choir,
though it was fiendishly difficult for a choir to sing
(even if half of the text wasn't in Armenian and the other half in
Latinate vocables)
Fortunately, it translates well to Wind Band: the difficulty
level of this piece would be grade 3
if not for challenging solos in the euphonium, tenor saxophone, and
alto saxophone parts.
These solos may be reassigned to other instruments as long as all
soloists remain in the same register.
"Hymn for Armenia" was premiered on March 5, 2011 by Leo Sakomoto and
the CSU Bakersfield Concert Band.
