Daydreamer's
March
for
Wind Band (Grade 5)
"Daydreamer's March" is a march-like piece that
wanders in both musical content and form. To me, this piece is
an internal struggle to stay focused. Throughout the composition, themes from two pieces are hinted at:
"Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum"
from Debussy's "Children's Corner" (which symbolizes the daydreams) and the Alborada from
"Capriccio Espagnol" by Rimsky-Korsakov
(which symbolizes the marcher's regain of focus). At the end of the piece, both
themes are finally presented directly.
